Families
At Dickinson, we believe our school is an extension of the family. We have an active Parent-Teacher Organization that holds many events, both for fundraising and social connections, and supports our school through volunteering. Each classroom has a room parent who is a liaison to the PTO as well as supporting the classroom teacher in a myriad of ways. PTO family events vary from year to year, but usually include Family Movie Night, Family Math Night, Dickinson Night Out and 4 community events at local restaurants.
Our approach to family conferences includes 3 opportunities: a September Getting-to-Know-You Goal-Setting conference, an Open House in November and a traditional Parent-Teacher Conference in January. The Open House event promotes the parent/teacher partnership in each child’s educational experience, sharing strategies for family members to use at home to help accelerate progress.
Dickinson Cares is a school-wide event that pairs each classroom with a local community organization in need. Students may collect donations and contributions, and all students participate in sorting and assembling the donations, along with inspirational messages for the recipients. This project is a great learning experience for our students and helps many community members.
